Mervyn blames Fonseka for Lasantha's assassination

(September 23, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Deputy Minister Mervyn Silva told Parliament today that he had evidence to prove that former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka was behind the killing of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunga.

“I have all the evidence with me and appeal to the government to initiate an inquiry into the murder of this brave journalist”, Mr. Silva said during the debate on the extension of the emergency.

He added that Mr Fonseka was also behind the attacks on journalists Upali Tennakoon and Keith Noyhar.

“I ask the UNP not to protect murderous”, he added.
