(September 18, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) According to verified information, the Sri Lanka government minister and one of the Tamil paramilitary group leader Douglas Devananda is claimed to be not abiding by the requests of the victims to handover the properties forcefully occupied by him in the North and East of Sri Lanka.
Some of the properties abandoned by the civilians during the civil war are being forcefully occupied by the Ministers paramilitary group. The owners had made several complaints to the police and no action has been yet taken to end the forceful occupations.
According to the victims, the police are giving sympathetic hearing to the victims and are saying they are unable to deal with the complaints because of complaints relates to a minister.
One police officer who took keen interest to deal with a complaint has attempted speak to the minister concerned in the presence of the victim. Despite several messages being left with his telephone receptionist, the Minster is not returning the calls.
Sri Lanka Guardian is withholding the identity of the victims to protect their safety.
In Jaffna, Douglas’s party office is said to be functioning in the Shanthi cinema theatre and in addition few other residential properties are forcefully occupied by his EPDP cadres.
The minister is also accused of abusing his authority and being involved in the sale of properties after illegally transferring the title deeds to bogus names.

The victims are scared to complain even to the President, fearing retributions from the Minister Douglas Devanada’s paramilitary group. One victim told the Sri Lanka Guardian that he is scared to seek even legal remedy due to the fear of adverse consequences from the Minister and his paramilitary group.
