(August 15, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Development of habours for improvement of economy is a quite an ancient and valid idea. However commerce do not flourish in a lawless environment. Mahinda Rapakse cannot expect success in Hambantota habour project so long as he maintains the contempt for the law as he has shown throughout his rule . A war may be won with complete disregards for the law. However, success in commerce cannot be achieved in the same manner.
No previous head of state in Sri Lana has shown contempt for the law as President Rajapakse does. His predecessors were not wonderful people. They however, had some fear of the law, even if they may not have had much respect for it. None of them would have dealt with their army commander in the manner he has done with General Fonseka.
Supreme disregard for law is manifest everywhere and in all aspects of life. Higher police officers are made to act as puppets and in fact they act even like puppies. No self respect is expected of the Attorney general Or any other officer . Corruption is outside the scope of criminal investigations. In fact, criminal investigation process has become a game in the hands of the president. Any charge can be fabricated against his enemies. His friends are exempt from investigations.
Sakvithi is the symbol of the Rajapakse era. People throughout the country suffer from the mad administration that is taking place. There is lot of proganda to keep the deception hidden.
