The Minister is not performing his duties, why pay his salary and perks?

Since Weerawanse got embroiled in his campaign against the UN Secretary General, he has not performed his ministerial duties. One ministerial staff told in anonymity that the Minister was using the ministerial resources to organise the anti-UN demonstration that started few days ago.

It is also claimed that his non performance as Minister and bringing disrepute to the nation by his conduct Weerawanse should forego his ministerial job and loose his salary and perks without any notice.

The President, the Ministers employer is still to announce whether he has sent a formal notice to Weerawanse for violating his contract as a Minister. It is unknown whether his salary and perks have been suspended.
