(April 13, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Today, politics in this country is mostly handled by racketeers, says Geetha Kumarasinghe, who contested the general election under the UPFA ticket from the Galle district.
Addressing a media briefing held yesterday, Geetha said that she, as well as the people of Galle, did not accept the results of the election.
“I don't accept this result. The people of Galle do not accept this result and the intelligent people of this country too will not accept this result.
“Today, politics in this country is mostly handled by racketeers. That is something that should not happen and we should respect the gentleman politics that is the need of the hour for this country. I appeal that the people of this country should not be deprived of their sacred right.
“I think that this is a betrayal of the people. This is a time where those persons, whom the people want to appoint with great desire and love, should be allowed to come forward.
“I love my party and have immense respect for the President. I received his blessings throughout my political campaign. However, my only regret is that certain persons have created problems for me,” said Ms. Kumarasinghe.
