Politicians’s henchmen attack 4 policemen

(April 15, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Four officers of the Thambuttegama police on night patrol were assaulted yesterday by supporters of a politician.

According to police, the mobile patrol had been en route to a house in the Yaya 4 area in Rajanganaya about 10 last night following a phone call received on the Police emergency number119 to the effect that the house had been set on fire.

The police officers, on their way to the location in Rajanganaya, had attempted to resolve a dispute, which they had observed at the 5th Mile Post area in Denipitiya.

It was at this juncture that the supporters of the politician had allegedly assaulted the policemen.

One of the injured policemen has been admitted to the Thambuttegama hospital.

Police noted that senior police officers had been informed of the incident and investigations were underway to arrest.
