(March 12, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Lawyers for detained General (retd.)Sarath Fonseka will attend the Court Martial hearing against him at the Navy headquarters on March 16 and challenge the legality of trying the former Army Commander before a bench comprising officers junior to him in rank, JVP MP Anura Dissanayake said this morning.
He said that there is no provision in the Army Act to court martial General (retd.) Fonseka and such a trial is “illegal.”
He added that General Fonseka will not attend next Tuesday’s hearing.
