(February 16, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) "Even the President cannot stop the law of the land being implemented," said Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama at the meeting with the Mahanayakes of the Malwathu and Asgiriya Chapters.
A group including Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and members of the Kotte Urban Council first met with the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, the most venerable Udugama Shri Buddharakbitha Thera.
They subsequently met with the Mahanayake of the Malwathu Chapter, the most venerable Thibattuwawe Shri Sumangala Thera.
“I have addressed the international community and all the countries have been briefed on the law of the land. This law doesn’t exist only in Sri Lanka but can be found in several of our allied countries as well. The international community has been briefed comprehensively regarding the course of action taken in connection with General Sarath Fonseka.
"No leader has the right to break a country’s law. The president cannot stop the country’s law being implemented. This has been communicated to the rest of the world through the media.
"Meanwhile a fundamental rights petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by General Sarath Fonseka. Therefore it is clear that the matter will be decided upon in court. Hence we can clearly say that the law does exist in the country,” he added.
