(January 26, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Elections Secretariat says that 114 incidents of election violence are reported in connection with voting carried out during the course of the day.The special unit set up for accepting complaints in this regard said that the highest number of incidents, 19, was reported from the Kandy district.
This unit has also received 16 complaints from the Gampaha district and another 12 complaints from the Colombo district.
The Secretariat added that each of those complaints were investigated by the district returning officers and senor police officials.
It noted that steps had been taken to provide redress to the parties affected by such incidents.
Meanwhile, the Secretariat said that violating of election laws had not in any way affected voting at the respective centres.
