New Indian envoy visits Kandy

(January 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The new Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Ashok K. Kanth toured Kandy yesterday. During his visit he met with the Maha Nayake Thero of the Malwathu Chapter, the Most Venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero.

The envoy, who said that it was his first official tour of Kandy, presented a gold plated Indian Buddha statue to the Maha Nayake.

The High Commissioner also said that India maintained very close ties with Sri Lanka.

“We have always been with Sri Lanka, in good times as well as periods that could be called challenging, extending our total co-operation.

“We also encourage Sri Lankans to visit India as tourists, pilgrims, businessmen, etc.,” added Mr. Kanth.
