(January 30, Kathmandu, Sri Lanka Guardian) The election Commission has declared Mahindra Rajapaksa, the President of Sri Lanka. Rajapaksa won the election (almost 58% vote) but Gen. S.Foneka is rejecting the result. In fact, it is not the point of discussion because Rajapaksa is not an unpopular candidate. Sri Lanka was in crisis since 1800 AD. History says- Tamils were sent to Sri Lanka by East-India-Company as workers in the rubber & wood farms from Tamilnadu of India. The King Ashoka had followed Buddhism in Sri Lanka since 2600 years ago.

Sri Lanka became independent in 1948. In the meantime, there were 70 percent Buddhists there and Hindu-Tamils were minorities. After1971, religious and language discrimination between Singhalese and Tamils led to a confrontation. Then in 1979, the Tamil based terrorist organization LTTE declared war for an independent state under the leadership of the young Pravakaran.

Now, the 30 years' long LTTE's armed struggle is over. The separatists in Sri Lanka have been defeated by the nationalist army though the war claimed 75 thousands live, including that of Pravakaran. Meanwhile several foreign-initiated 'peace talks,' peace force' and 'mediation' failed in bringing about peace. But the determination of the Sri Lankan people, president Mahendra Rajapaksa, government and army enjoyed victory. The Gen. S. Fonseka also contributed to establish peace in Sri Lanka. But, political election is another aspect. I request- Gen.Fonseka should take presence. Now, it is a great satisfaction to extend congratulation that the election has finished peacefully.

South Asia is in turmoil as India is taking the policy of aggressive intervention against the neighbouring countries- Nepal, Bangaladesh, Sri-Lanka and Pakistan. The Congress (I) government of India is working for establishing these countries by mobilising it notorious intelligence agency, RAW. RAW has long faced allegations of meddling in its neighbours' internal affairs. In 1987, New Delhi made a pact with the Sri-Lankan government with bad intention to send peace-keeping troops to the island and Indian forces ended up fighting the group RAW had armed. In 1991, Rajiv Gandhi, prime minister of India at the time of the deployment of the peacekeeping force, was assassinated by an LTTE suicide bomber. History says- nationality is not a subject that will be saved by others. President Rajapaksa’s rise in popularity was mainly due to his contribution in designing and orchestrating the actions of the entire government to achieve military victory.

Sri-Lanka is one of the best friends of Nepal. Nepal & Sri-Lanka consider Panchasheel and peaceful coexistence as a basis of their relationship. The relation between Nepal and Sri-Lanka is not limited to state level only it also extends to the people level also. Nepal and Sri-Lanka had religious and cultural relation from the time of Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha was born in the famous gardens of Lumbini, the western part of Nepal 623 B.C. which soon became a place of pilgrimage. Buddha was born to a Hindu ruler. Buddhism became a religion because human beings thrive for peace rather than violence. Among the pilgrims was the Indian Emperor Ashoka, who erected one of his commemorative pillars there. The site is now being developed as a Buddhist pilgrimage centre, where the archaeological remains associated with the birth of the Lord Buddha form a central feature.

Lumbinī is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi district of Nepal, near the Indian border. It is the place where Queen Mayadevi mother of Gautam Buddha, is said to have given birth to Siddhartha Gautam, who as the Buddha founded the Buddhist tradition. Records made by the Chinese pilgrim Fa Xian-629-39 A.D. also used in the process of identifying this religiously acclaimed site. The holy site of Lumbini has ruins of ancient monasteries, a sacred Bodhi tree, an ancient bathing pond, the Ashoka pillar and the Mayadevi temple. The fact accepted by UNESCO while providing world heritage status to the place. The Lord Pashupathinath, Shoyambhunath of Nepal is the symbols of Hindus & Buddha's. Lumbini is a pious land for Hindus & Buddhists. But, the position of Buddha's land is very danger from the Nepalese traitors (Congress, UML, Maoist, the agents of India) who are in regime. They are going to destroy the unity between Hindu & Buddha. But, it is a matter of pride that Nepalese people are conscious to save this pious country.

We, Nepalese people feeling the great pleasure to extend our hearty greetings and Congratulation the again re-elected president Mahendra Rajapasa who had visited Nepal as well as the birth place of Lord Buddha in Lumbani, just 2009. We, Nepalese people, congratulate the President Mahendra Rajapasa.
