Fonseka supporter killed in Wariapola

(January 18, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A UNP supporter who was putting up posters in support of opposition common candidate General (retd.) Sarath Fonseka was killed on Sunday night after he was assaulted with iron rods by a group of unidentified persons in Ambakadawala in the Wariapola area.

A group of around eight men had come on motorbikes when the victim and several others were putting up the posters and started attacking them.

The others had managed to run away but the dead man identified as Dammika Herath had failed to escape the attackers.
