All thoughts of Wijedasa would not have possible if we had to fight the terrorists with a bloated army. For 30 years that is what UNP did. Even with the 5/6th of the majority in the Parliament and a powerful executive presidency what did they do? The selling of public asset for a song to please IMF, and major scandals took place during their regime is not forgotten by most. The threat to democracy by various thugs of UNP was far worse than that of Mervin Silva of Today. Gonawala Sunil of Ranil Wickramasinghe days virtually ran all the Ministries. Batalanda torture Chambers are not forgotten. How they dealt with JVP supporters by eliminating more than 60,000 youth is legendary. Yes, during UNP days the shops were filled with cheap imports, but how many people were able to afford them. They created this ultra rich English Speaking Colombo circle which is thriving now. MR will clamp down this menace when he gets his 2nd mandate. Some are eager to blame him for lack of benefits passed on to masses after the defeat of LTTE. When you see the East after two years of LTTE control one can see the difference. Within 6 months of bloody defeat of LTTE, it may take about 2-3 years for development to reach these lands. Wijedasa should join the more deserving candidate if he really wants to develop Sri Lanka.
