(December 14, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The non-Cabinet minister and the paramilitary leader Douglas Devananda (Doug or Doughy) publicly claimed that his ten point proposal to resolve the conflict in Sri Lanka was accepted by the President. According to news published elsewhere and verified with Doug’s party sources, in fact the President had grinned at him when Doug explained and handed over his proposal. At the end of the meeting with the President, Doug has asked for Sally (Money) for his work in the north. For this too the President had given a big grin.
Minister Douglas Devananda who is well known as Doug and Doughy amongst his close friends has publicly misled the people by claiming that his proposal has been accepted by the President.
Since Doug’s public claim and the political controversy propagated by his claim in the election campaign, the President has given up any public contact with him. The President’s sudden visit to the opening of the military monument in Nadidhikadal in Vanni did not include Doug. Even when the President met the IDP’s in the Manik farm he did take Doug or mention about his political proposal.
According to information, the President has decided to campaign in the North with his trusted non-cabinet Minister and a paramilitary leader Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan well known as Col Karuna. The President is expected have limited engagement with Doug as he feels Doug has become a real liability for him.
It is claimed Doug is displeased about the stand taken by the President despite going out of the way to manage President’s party office (SLFP Office) in Jaffna which directly conflict with his own party mission.-Sri Lanka Guardian

Doug is fox and he got all security to survive LTTE attacks and no the chance has come with SF contesting elcetions Doug is trying to fish in the murky waters.
Duggie must know his days are numbered. Karuna is but a Perumal in the making.
Pillayan will play for time.
None of these are jokers. They are doing what their predecessors Ponnambalam bros. immediately after independence,Appeal Court Judge Palakidnar who swung the ovtes for Sattellite in WPC to win her term in 1994 thussecuring himself a plum property in Dehiwela (not bad for a son aof a station master), IGP Rudra Rajasingam who kept silent when JR refused to declare curfew during the July pogrom of 1983 and Kadirgamar post independence did.
They are just fattening up their own cofers knowing very well their political clout is but just a chimera.
Meanwhile they would make sure they accumulate wealth destined for politicians for at least a couple of more generations.
Mannenannai Maheswaran profited but alas he was bumped off.
Douglas was running guest-houses in Maradana for 50 rupees per mat (I am talking about Year 2000) for Tamils wanting to escape the island by means fouls or fair.
And being given the profitable venture in cargo ships between KKS and Trinco transporting IDPs and esential goods with the blessings of both the govt.and ICRC.
Karuna has managed to leave his wife and kids behind in old Blighty to get a better education which the poor sod never had. he was learning English in UK jail thanks to Ranil's maneouvres with Liam Fox, ex UK foreign secretary.
Dear God, save Tamils from Tamils.
If the dubious Douglas is dumped by MR, pity those who joined the gravy train to be his (Douglas's)several consultants from the UK. Will they find another sponsoer or return back.
