“Namal Rajapakse had been furious at this and had said, “Don’t you like to play cricket anymore?” Instead of being angry at this Sanath had asked Mr. Rajapakse not to force him to agree for an act he did not like to perform.”

(December 11, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Sanath Jayasuriya has been threatened with death by Namal Rajapakse after he had declined an invitation by ‘Tharunyata Hetak’ organization to appear in one of the advertisements they have launched using artistes and others as a part of the election campaign of Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse.

Mr. Namal Rajapakse has invited Sanath Jayasuriya to appear in one of the advertisements. At this Sanath had said he had never directly appeared in any advertisement on behalf of any political party and he would like to maintain his policy. He had politely said that he would not like to appear in the advertisement that would be used for the election campaign.

Mr. Namal Rajapakse had been furious at this and had said, “Don’t you like to play cricket anymore?” Instead of being angry at this Sanath had asked Mr. Rajapakse not to force him to agree for an act he did not like to perform.

However, Sanath had got prepared for a legal process against this act and when Mr. Rajapakse had heard about this he had told Sanath to go to police only if he has given up playing cricket.

This is ridiculous.

Who would believe Tharunayata Hetak (a better tomorrow for the youth) program would have 42 years old Sanath Jayasuriya in its poster!

Get real.

The article stops short of putting any words in quotes from Rajapakse’s son about any death threats, although that is the title of the short essay.

The article merely gives some dubious claim that Rajapaksa’s son told the cricketer that he might be out of the cricket association if he did not appear in the ad.

The cricketer has made his name and money in the owrld of cricket and so would like to live within the specialized and affluent social niche that the retired general is pandering to. Where is some thought about the disadvantaged masses that are so greatly helped by the wise and compassionate Rajapakses?

Oh it seems that a certian Klan are at it again. Bullying people into carrying out their demands.

Will they ever learn that there are people who have principles and have the courage to stand up to it.

Sanath has been polite (per the article) in his reponse as a gentleman.

This high handed attitude that is prevailing at the present moment in time is going to bring the mighty down with a thump.
