I do not intend joining thieves, murders, says CBK

(December 19, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga says that who will support anyone who will develop the country at the upcoming presidential election. She was making these views while making a donation to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital today (Dec. 18).

She was accompanied by her son Vimukthi Kumarathunga where the former president donated a stock of medicines worth Rs. 2 million to the hospital.

Speaking to the media after visiting the hospital, Mrs. Kumaratunga said that patients in the hospital were dying due to lack of medicines.

“When I made inquiries from the head doctor he hold me that there was a shortage of medicine. He said that certain illnesses were curable but patients died due to lack of medicines.

“Therefore, we donated medicine worth around Rs. 2 million rupees and also gave an alms giving for the children in the hospital.

“The money for this purpose was not stolen or collected from anyone. I did this from a personal bank deposit I had. I live out of selling my lands.

“We haven't stolen a single cent from anyone. There is no point in doing something like this with ill-gotten money. Doing it this way is more beneficial. We are glad that we were able to do this. I was moved when I saw these patients,” said the former president.

Responding to a question on the upcoming presidential poll, Mrs. Kumaratunga said that her stance was to support anyone who developed the country.

“I support the person who would develop the country with the people's money without destroying it or committing murders and someone who will not steal.

“I have been chased away from by party. Therefore, I am very independent. I have no intention of getting on to anyone's stage.

“I have no intention of engaging in politics with thieves and murderers. If someone comes forward to develop the country, I will support that person,” she said.

Lady, It's difficult to digest but you had more than enough money stolen from Srilanka.

This lady had faced the scandle of waters-edge, and Victor Ivan's book which accused her of embezzling the state, and even blue murder. She did associate with Mervyn de Silva and S. B. Dissanayake. Even if 10% of all those accusations against her be valid, does she have a leg to stand?

At least once CBK has been more stateswoman like. By not joining the group who dis-qualified her own mother to stand 1st presidential election, she has shown some courage in the right direction. She nurtured people like Mangala Samaraweera who embezzled the country. Though Sarath Fonseka who was not fit enough to command the Salvation Army has no balls to have joined the group who put so many spokes in the military campaign. Perhaps this must be very true with actions of Sarath Fonseka exibiting everyday since he became the bloated General. We have to send this whole group to no mans land at the end of the election for their own safety. It is pity to see some other UNP foul mouths trying to pitch slogans in favour of SF. They must have completely screwed up their brains being with Ranil Wickramasinge to support a candidate of this calibre.
