(December 25, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) General Sarath Fonseka’s statement, welcoming even the support of Prabhakaran’s parents and the entire Tamil community as a whole, is ample testimony to his willingness to garner the contribution of all factions in the development of the country, says K. D. Lalkantha JVP parliamentarian yesterday.
“It is the most significant statement made after the conclusion of the conflict,” said Lalkantha addressing the 12th annual convention of the all Ceylon General Ports Employees’ Union held in Colombo.
“What did General Sarath Fonseka say? He said that anyone who accepts this programme and extends their support, be it Prabhakaran parents, the entire LTTE organization or the Tamil People, he will welcome them. That is the political policy that a leader who is elected after the conclusion of the war should posses. The Tamil people need to be connected to the country. That is the most significant statement made after the war,” the JVP MP said.
Addressing the convention, another JVP parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti said that there were many who were both familiar with the bullet as well as the bullet, rendering their support to the General.
“I saw Minister Maithripala Sirisena saying at a rally that General Sarath Fonseka did not understand the ballot and is familiar with only the bullet. However Maithripala is well aware of the fact that the JVP is working towards the victory of Sarath Fonseka.
“On this stage there are people who are familiar with both the ballot and the bullet. We are aware that Sarath Fonseka is the only person who is familiar with the bullet. However there are members on this stage who are familiar with both the ballot and the bullet who are rendering their support,” said Handunnetti.
