Arjuna extends support to General Fonseka

(December 17, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Ranatunga, the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian extended his support to the opposition common candidate General Sarath Fonseka this afternoon.

Making the announcement at a media briefing in Colombo to support the General at the upcoming presidential election, Arjuna said that his decision had been taken after much consideration.

“I came to understand in the recent past, while I was in the government, that once General Fonseka was announced as the Opposition common candidate for the presidential election, a war hero a few months ago, was suddenly being downgraded.

“I was in the government for eight years and during my tenure, I always spoke against corruption, especially in the sports field, but unfortunately, no matter how much I had spoken, they were not able to put a stop to it,” said Ranatunga.

Arjuna noted that all those who were responsible for such corruption were never even brought to justice and even an inquiry was not held either.

The strange behaviour of Arjuna is same for SF. These people are no politicians and have done it for kicks. Just because you are a good cricketer or good solider does not mean that you also can be a good politician. None of these people know even the history of Sri Lanka. Most of their adult years they have spent to make wealth for themselves, while people who got politics were involved in alleviating the problems of masses. Once they have come to the end of their productive years, they parachute to politics and expect people to surrender to their whims and fancies. Arjuna or SF is no good for anything of political sense. I wish both of them face their real contest with their own selves.
