(November 04, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Police fired tear and water cannon on protesting unemployed graduates at Fort a little while ago. The protestors of the Unemployed Graduates' Union were attempting to enter the High Security Zone in Fort and the police had erected two barriers to stop their attempt.
According to police media spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka, the protestors had broken through the first barrier and marching towards the second.
“The protestors pushed aside the first barrier and was advancing on the second barrier. Police tried to stop them and when three police officers were injured in their attempt to control the protestors, police were compelled to fire tear gas and use water canon to disperse the unruly demonstrators,” the spokesman said. -Sri Lanka Guardian
