Lanka journalists' case to be taken before mediation board

(November 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The case of three Lanka journalists who were arrested for allegations of conspiracy to assassinate the President and questioned by the Terrorism Investigation Division has been forwarded to a mediation board for settlement, a statement from the newspaper said.

Morawaka Additional Magistrate Udesh Weeratunga held that the matter could be resolved in a mediation board and accordingly fixed the case for January 13 with a directive that the mediation board report be submitted on that day.

Journalists Shalika Wimalasena, Ravindra Pushpakumara and Daya Netthasinghe were arrested on September 2 when they entered an estate in Deniyaya where state resources were being used to build a road for a private residence. They were held for six days by the TID.

Eventually they were charged only for intruding into a private estate without permission.

they were arrested on charges of intruding private property but charged on conspiracy to assassinate the president sounds absurd?
