(November 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The government has prepared a “comprehensive response” to be delivered to the European Commission (EC) via Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Brussels in a bid to retain the GSP+ facility for the country, Minister of International Trade G.L.Peiris told Parliament today.
The EC had given time till Nov 6 for the government to send its observations to the Commission before it makes a final decision on whether to continue to give Sri Lanka the preferential trade facility after it ends in June next year.
The Minister said the report has been compiled after gathering details from related ministries.
Chief Opposition Whip Jospeh Michael Perera asked that the report be tabled in Parliament.
Minister Peris said he would do so after the report is given to the EC. -Sri Lanka Guardian
