(October 10, Galle, Sri Lanka Guardian) Polling in Southern Provincial Council elections ended a short while ago with an average of over 50 percent voter turn out.
The voting is being carried out in a relatively peaceful manner with a few minor incidents of intimidation and obstruction being reported to independent election monitors.
The police are not taking any chances and are maintaining a status of high alert through the province and so far the situation is under control, DIG Gamini Navaratne said. -Sri Lanka Guardian
