(October 08, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Due to the lack of income the government is presenting a Vote on Account instead of a budget, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said in the parliament today.
Furthermore he noted that the Consolidated Fund did not have sufficient funds even to pay state employees for the next four months.
Responding to a statement made by the Leader of the House Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Opposition Leader said that a vote on account would only reveal expenses.
Meanwhile Minister de Silva said the vote on account was being presented to give the new parliament that would be elected after the general election in 2010, an opportunity to present a budget.
Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that preparations were being made to present a budget next year. -Sri Lanka Guardian
