(October 02, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Over 60 per cent of children suffer from depression, says the National Mental Health Foundation.
“The lack of communication between children and parents, children and teachers are the primary causes for this condition,” said Professor Gnanadasa Perera, Chairman of the foundation.
It would be difficult to develop the talents and skills of a child under such circumstances, he said.
According to Professor Perera, in order to bring up a citizen who will make a valuable contribution to society, a child's innate abilities need to be identified and fostered from a young age.
“For this, the creation of an environment that is conducive needs to be created both at home and school,” the Professor added. -Sri Lanka Guardian
