(October 27, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said that opposition has so far not disclosed the name of the common candidate for the next Presidential elections, but the governemnt appeared to be jittery that the former commander, Gen Sarath Fonseka who is currently the Chief of Defense Staff would contest elections.
Mr. Wickremesinghe made these comments ahead of a meeting with trade unions in Colombo today.
Mr. Wickremesinghe said that the media had the right to speculate about the candidates, but the government was worried about the candidate and trying to surpress the media. -Sri Lanka Guardian

This is a fantastic bogey to keep the suspense alive. Ultimately, the curiosity itself will rattle those at all levels of the government and deflate their egos. Reminds one of a frog who inflated himself trying to show off how big a bull is !

I do no understand how Ranil can even suggest Fonseka to be common candidate. He is the one who suggested ‘Thoppigla’ was a juggle and what kind of victory SLA has achieved. Then his mouth peace Samaraweera suggesting Fonseka is not good enough even to lead the Salvation Army. The utterances of Ravi Karunanayake, Jayalath Jayawardana and Mano Ganaeshan all slandered Fonseka in so many ways. How come this sudden affection? I wonder Fonseka is being requested to stand for election by the American administration??
