EU should stop subsidizing Lankan abuses by which Colombo is provoking Tamils to uprise

(October 03, Washington, Sri Lanka Guardian) Sri Lanka is building up their armed forces because we believe, they expect that their treatment of Tamils is going to provoke another rebellion, and they want to be ready for it. The European Union, by gifting Sri Lanka with 8.1 billion U.S. dollars through the GSP Plus program, is helping Sri Lanka to enlarge and strengthen its armed forces and is subsidizing the numerous atrocities and abuses by which Colombo is provoking the expected uprising among the Tamils, 'Tamils for Obama' said.

Tamils for Obama wrote a letter to the European Union urging the EU to take away Sri Lanka's tax concession for trade entry into Europe.

A spokesman for Tamils for Obama told PRWEB "This is a concession by which Sri Lanka pockets billions of Dollars which they would not otherwise have, and we know that they are spending a large part of it on their armed forces.

"Sri Lanka's armed forces are already far bigger than any country their size without external enemies needs. They are building up their armed forces, we believe, because they expect that their treatment of Tamils is going to provoke another rebellion, and they want to be ready for it."

The letter says that Sri Lanka government trying to start up another civil war within its boundaries, because Colombo's goal is to drive the Tamils out of Sri Lanka as fast as they can, and the best way to do this is to re-start the civil war and kill as many Tamils as they can with aerial attacks, shelling, cluster bombing, and so forth. That is, kill and scare as many away as possible, as fast as possible."

"Our darkest suspicion is that Colombo is continuing its policy of driving out as many Tamils as it can," the spokesman told PRWEB. "Unfortunately, Colombo usually realizes our worst fears."

The letter urges the EU not to renew Sri Lanka's generous tax concession because it makes the EU a participant in Sri Lanka's policy.

Re: GSP Plus subsidizes Sri Lankan abuses

Dear European Union Members,

Japan Times writes “Not content with increasing the military's size five-fold since the late 1980s to more than 200,000 troops today, Colombo is raising the strength further to 300,000, in the name of "eternal vigilance." Soon after the May victory, the government, for example, announced a drive to recruit 50,000 new troops to help manage the northern areas captured from the rebels.” Link to Japan Times: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/eo20090919bc.html

We agree with Japan Times. Sri Lanka already has a far larger army than any country its size requires. The extra soldiers are apparently required because the Colombo government expects to reignite a rebellion among the Tamil population, a rebellion it is right to expect because it is doing everything in its power to cause the rebellion.

Why would a government try to start up another civil war within its boundaries? We think that Colombo’s goal is to drive the Tamils out of Sri Lanka as fast as they can, and the best way to do this is to re-start the civil war and kill as many Tamils as they can with aerial attacks, shelling, cluster bombing, and so forth. That is, kill and scare as many away as possible, as fast as possible.

The European Union, by gifting Sri Lanka with 8.1 billion U.S. dollars through the GSP Plus program, is helping Sri Lanka to enlarge and strengthen its armed forces and is subsidizing the numerous atrocities and abuses by which Colombo is provoking the expected uprising among the Tamils.

We urge the EU to end the tax-free bonus to Sri Lankan goods. This serves mostly to support the Sri Lankan armed forces.

Thank you,
Sincerely,
Tamils for Obama
