(October 22, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian)The Democratic People's Front (DPF) will not be a party to the proposed opposition party alliance if General Sarath Fonseka is proposed as the candidate for the presidential election, DPF leader Mano Ganeshan has informed Opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe.
Issuing a media release, Ganeshan had stated that the Tamil-speaking people of this country did not have anything in common with General Fonseka for him to be the common candidate.
“There are reasonable signals to the nation that the proposed alliance among the UNP, SLFP Mahajana Wing, SLMC and the DPF wants General Fonseka to contest the Presidential elections as the common opposition candidate,” Ganeshan had stated.
The statement stressed that it was a position the Democratic People's Front did not share. -Sri Lanka Guardian
