CID hunts for "Lanka" reporter

(October 17, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is seeking to question a reporter attached to the Sinhala language weekly “Lanka” in connection with the paper’s lead story on October 16, a spokesperson for the newspaper said.

He said that reporter’s name was dropped by the CID sleuths at the time they arrested the paper’s editor Chandana Sirimalwatte at a playground in Homagama this afternoon. The editor was arrested over a headline story suggesting a serious rift between President Mahinda Rajapakse and former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka.

Director CID DIG Nandana Munasinghe told the reporters that investigators wish to know the source of information that amounted to this particular story.

Meanwhile Mr. Sirimalwatte was currently being grilled by sleuths at CID Head Quarters in Colombo.
