All parties must join to abolish Executive Presidency – Mangala Samaraweera

(August 28, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Mangala Samaraweera , Leader of the SLFP (M) , said the proposed alliance under the main Opposition party , the UNP is extending its open arms to embrace all parties which are prepared to join the Alliance . The JVP has already started its campaign to abolish the Executive Presidency. It is most appropriate if all parties joined together towards this abolition.

If the Govt. wished to abolish the Executive Presidency now, the Opposition parties will gladly give support to secure the two thirds majority needed in Parliament for this , Mr. Samaraweera pointed out.

Focusing on the issue of the IDPs, he described the camps holding the 280,000 refugees as prisons, because they are forcibly detained. These refugees are in abject misery . There are also accounts of refugees disappearing , he lamented.
