(July 09, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Sajith Premadasa UNP M.P. speaking to the media today (July -09) , at the UNP media unit highlighted the injustice the PA Government and the Mahinda Chintana had perpetrated on the farmers of this country. Though SL is an essentially agricultural country and its economy depends on the farmers ; since 2000 , the PA Govts. have meted out step -motherly treatment to them ,he lamented. During the period of the UNP regimes the farmers were given their due place . So many provisions and Acts were passed in Parliament conferring benefits on the farmers , particularly those who cultivated lands taken from land owners. Even the laws which gave protection to these cultivating farmers from being evicted by the landowners was withdrawn by the PA Govt. in the year 2000. Consequently , these farmers are left to the mercy of the land owners who can evict them any time. Between the year 2000 and now , thousands of farmers have suffered and had to abandon their occupation. Besides , the rights and privileges of farmers passing to his kith and kin when he dies are also denied after the PA govt.’s legislation .
Though the present Govt. has realized what the UNP did was the right thing and is trying to lethargically make amends by passing new laws to restore their rights , all those farmers who suffered losses until now will be left in the lurch because the Govt. will not give retroactive operation to the legislation , he bemoaned. -Sri Lanka Guardian

Sajith should be asking his late Father what happened to the farmers. His father while talking in the daytime, the nights was spent in the company of now famous LTTE supporter Paskaralingam. The handing over of truck loads of weapons to the tigers and not taking a firm stand on terrorism he became a joker of the day. His buddies did all the lucrative contracts, which resulted in above average failure rate of housing construction. Mrs. Premadasa’s limelight during his father’s tenure is legendary. During UNP days how can they have helped the farmers, when they killed more than 60,000 of them under the pretext of JVP insurrection?
Sajith is joking..When his father was the prime minister he & his sister went to London for ????? out of SL govt. funds, enjoyed to the full, for their security one of his uncles from his mother's side who was a clerk in SL, posted to London assigned to one of the most highly credible SL financial institutions as a consultant but truth was to do the care taker job of Sajith & his sister, all out of misuse of state power & assets.Now this man is trying to be a sinless angel...jokers cheating poor peasants to earn their living..
