Dayan Jayatileke made to pay the price for his integrity, rectitude and patriotism -UNP

(July 23, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) "Dayan Jayatileke , the country representative at the United Nations (UN) well known for his integrity and patriotic fervor at all times , and who has on several occasions been responsible for stemming many a tide that turned against SL at the UN, was stripped of his post unceremoniously due to pressure allegedly brought to bear on the Govt. by Israel , despite the fact that it is only recently the Israel Govt. mounted accusations against the SL Govt. of indiscriminate military excesses and human rights violations," the United National Party said in a press statement released by the Media Unit of the party on today.

According to the statement, "The cruel irony of this whole episode is , this action against Dayan was taken under the Govt. of President Rajapakse who is the founder member of the SL Committee for solidarity of Palestinians , and which post he has held for 30 long years. Indeed , he is currently the Patron of the Organization ."

Dayan Jayatileke , the country representative at the United Nations (UN) well known for his integrity and patriotic fervor at all times , and who has on several occasions been responsible for stemming many a tide that turned against SL at the UN, was stripped of his post unceremoniously due to pressure allegedly brought to bear on the Govt. by Israel , despite the fact that it is only recently the Israel Govt. mounted accusations against the SL Govt. of indiscriminate military excesses and human rights violations. The ‘wrong’ Dayan committed is : speaking out in keeping with his overriding sterling traits of integrity, outspokenness and objective thinking , against Israel’s brutal massacre in Gaza involving the killing and maiming of hundreds of unarmed civilians while also causing mass damage and destruction to buildings housing them .

Dayan , incurring the wrath and anger of Israel and the Zionists of course is natural and understandable . But , what is most distressing and dismaying is the Govt. of SL reacting to his statement in the way it did – removing him from the post of country representative at the UN when he has proved all along to the SL Govt. beyond doubt how competent he is and with what dedication he has carried out his duties putting country before self always in the best interests of the country .

The cruel irony of this whole episode is , this action against Dayan was taken under the Govt. of President Rajapakse who is the founder member of the SL Committee for solidarity of Palestinians , and which post he has held for 30 long years. Indeed , he is currently the Patron of the Organization . Besides, this Govt. has sought funding for its various projects from Arab and Muslim countries , yet , it’s kowtowing to Israel , the enemy of these countries. The Govt.’s conduct cannot be explained therefore, except on the dastardly double standards practiced by it.

The most unfortunate feature of these events is, the Govt. has found it fit to sacrifice patriotism , selfless dedication and loyalty to the country of a patriot ,Dayan Jayatileke at the altar of Israel’s treacherous interests and designs.
