Shame on you, Milinda Moragoda

(June 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Milinda Moragoda crossed over from the UNP to save his skin from allegations of corruption and impropriety.

The President has publicly proclaimed that, in the same way he eliminated the brutal LTTE once and for all, he is determined to wipe out corruption.

Mr. President, here is a good opportunity for you to start the ball rolling by allowing the full force of the law to bear on your Minister Milinda Moragoda, who has been cited by the Supreme Court as being primarily responsible in the Lanka Marine Services and Sri Lanka Insurance privatisations, which were not only irregular but also caused great financial losses to the economy and thereby to the general public. I understand that another 42 such privatisations are yet to be investigated.

Recently, the courts remanded several directors of Ceylinco Consolidated for allegedly duping the public to the tune of Rs. 26 billion. Moragoda, P.B. Jayasundera and others have, by their irresponsible and possibly corrupt actions, caused losses exceeding Rs. 26 billion.

Similar strong action needs to be taken against the above named individuals. I urge those two public-spirited heroes, Vasudeva Nanayakara and Nihal Amerasekera, to do what it takes to expose these individuals and ensure that suitable action is taken against them. Let there be no double standards with regard to those who embezzle public funds and those who embezzle private funds.

Let us all work together for a peaceful, prosperous and corruption-free Sri Lanka.
