(June 24,Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) 'Captain Ali', the vessel that attempted to land a consignment of aid sent by Tamil expatriates in Europe to Tamil internally displaced persons in Sri Lanka, is languishing at anchor off Chennai.
According to the BBC, an Icelandic crew member of the vessel had said that they saluted the people in Southern India for allowing the ship into Chennai harbour, but that the decision appeared to have gone to Delhi.
The crew member had said that they were getting irritated after 11 days of waiting and their best hope was to be able to land the aid cargo and 'do some good' with it.
The BBC added that the group which sent the aid had insisted that its aims were purely humanitarian, and earlier that month, the Sri Lankan Navy, when it searched the ship while it was anchored off Colombo, had found only food and medicines on the boat. -Sri Lanka Guardian
