(May 03, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Highly euphoric President is planning to call the municipal and the northern provincial council elections soon after dislodging the LTTE from the remaining pocket of fighting area in the Vanni. The elections are planned to be held in the heavy presence of the military in the area.
The President’s party officials are said to have started the process to pressurise the anti-LTTE Tamil parties aligned with the government to go for a united front to campaign under a collision arrangement.
According to news reaching from government sources, the pro-government and anti-LTTE Tamils parties such as TULF, PLOTE, EPDP, TMVP,TELO and EPRLF have been pressurised to put forward a united front with the President’s SLFP to contest the elections. The officials are mooting that the collision must agree to use the official party symbol of ‘beetle leaf’ of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and that it will be a precursor for a two party system to emerge in the country.
The Tamil parties that are in the payroll of the government are finding it hard to agree an alternative symbol due to heavy handedness of the state intelligence and are also fearing for the wrath of the government.
According to sources, some members of President’s party are contemplating to change the multi-party democratic system in the country following the next general elections to a one party system, expecting the President’s party to secure two third majority due to his success in the governments war efforts against the LTTE.

we dont need to be too harsh on this idea. too many tamil parties with too little supporters. At this juncture it's good and safe idea.
The person who wrote this may not know the difference between collision and coalition - or may be it is a Freudian slip! In any case, can all the anti-LTTE parties agree on anything if they are left to themselves?
Many tamil parties are still having guns. what is the definition you could say for this fact? democratize first, instead of confrontational attitude against to any opinion.this stupid confrontational politics is the biggest problem of tamil society in last fifty odd years. SJV is the main culprit for this confrontational politics.
