(May 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Parliament approved the state of emergency by a further month this evening with 88 MPS voting for and 14 against the motion.
MPs of the TNA voted against the motion while the JVP voted for it. UNP MPs were not present in the House when the vote as taken.
Leader the House Nimal Siripala De Silva said that there would be no ceasefire with the Tigers with the military operations against the LTTE now almost over.
“We have managed to free thousands of civilians from the clutches of the LTTE but so far we have not been able to free the TNA MPs from their clutches,” he said.
The Minister also said that a political package to solve the problems of the Tamils would be would be put together soon.
