(May 06, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) The attack on an army convoy near Coimbatore was waiting to happen. It was an inevitable consequence to how Tamilnadu has been allowed to tune its political rhythm towards the kind of violence that is being inspired by the LTTE.
If the Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram, himself a man from Tamilnadu says that this is a dangerous trend that is needed to be viewed seriously, where was he all these years when Tamilnadu politicians were courting with the LTTE and even making a deadly terrorist as a folklore hero?
We have had many occasions to warn India and especially Tamilnadu politicians about the dangerous trends in relation to the LTTE and its presence in this southern state in various forms. The Federal Government should have taken a strong stand especially against the LTTE enthusiasts like Gopalaswamy, Ramadoss, Thirumavalavan, Nedumaran and others. They propagated Tiger adulation in Tamilnadu no doubt generously funded by the LTTE.
Some cheap Tamil journals like Kumutham and Ananda Vikatan who had known great fame in the past have descended to such low levels that they have become ardent supporters of Tiger terrorism. Is there any doubt that principles and integrity have been stampeded by Canadian dollars?
Madam Jeyaram Jeyalalitha cannot be more politically opportunistic than how she is conducting herself on the Sri Lankan issue. A lady brought up with film scripts and politically moulded by the passion she had for M G Ramachandran which had nothing to do with politics, Jeyalalitha is a political delinquent.
India’s Central Government and the BJP must spell out to her in clear terms that her talk about creating an Eelam State has to stop forthwith. She should not be allowed to whip up passions in Tamilnadu and give hopes to the pro-LTTE Tamil Diaspora when the Tamils in Sri Lanka have no interests in such a fantasy.
The current general election scenario in Tamilnadu has exposed the political shallowness and “nincompoopery” of almost all the political leaders of the state. Even such an elder politician like Karunanidhi to indulge in a series of farces like fasting from breakfast to lunch and from lunch to dinner only reflects on his views of his own people as a herd of sheep that will baa-baa-tow behind him.
India needs no politicians who make much mileage out of issues that affect another country when their own people are under immense burden to survive because their politicians are corrupt. Tamilnadu is shockingly short of dedicated leaders.
As for the dangerous trend Minister Chidambaram talked about, the cancer has already affected Tamilnadu and what is needed now is intensive surgery.
