(May 30, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Media Centre for National Security said it has received information that numerous private organisations and individuals have collected money on the pretext of using for the soldiers' welfare following the defeat of LTTE terrorism.
The Centre said yesterday (May 29) that the Government has taken adequate measures to ensure the welfare of soldiers.
The Api Wenuwen Api fund, the Ranaviru Seva Authority for the Welfare of Soldiers and the Ranaviru Sevana institutions to provide disabled soldiers' needs are active in ensuring that the war heroes who freed the motherland are well looked after.
The Defence Ministry also takes adequate steps to ensure the soldiers' welfare. Therefore, the Defence, Public Security, Law and Order Ministry stresses that such collection of funds from the public is unnecessary.
In this backdrop, the public are advised not to be misled and not to contribute to dubious collectors.
The Defence Ministry also said that any private organisation, voluntary organisation or individual willing to donate money for the welfare of troops who liberated the motherland from terrorism should do so to the Api Wenuwen Api fund under the Account Number 7040000.
