(May 10, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) LTTE's deputy sea Tiger leader Cheiliyan has been killed in fighting with security forces, Defence sources said.Earlier a senior Tiger guerrilla known as Wellayan had been killed when the troops of 58 Division captured the earth bund in Karyalamulleivaikkal on Friday.
According to details available, Cheliyan who is in early 30s was from Trincomalee. He has lad many attacks on the Sri Lanka Navy in the past and received injuries in a confrontation with the Navy on 27th March 2008.
Meanwhile, At least 700 civilians were rescued by the military from the north as the Navy rescued another 300 from the sea since Saturday, military spokesman Brig Udaya Nanayakkara said.
He said that heavy fighting was continuing in the area.-Sri Lanka Guardian
