Tamil Nadu political soap comedy

(April 28, Melbourne, Sri Lanka Guardian) Since of late, Tamil Nadu political cinema has become a breeding ground for budding villains, card board heroes and comedians. Karunanidhi and his gang in DMK and Jayalalitha with AIADMK competing and undercutting each other to get Indian Oscar award for the best comedian on this Tamil Nadu soap opera. These two have performed their final acts just before the Indian General elections.

Jayalalitha who was once a staunch voice against LTTE and its supporters has suddenly somersaulted and say that she supports a“Tamil Eelam” for the Tamils in Sri Lanka. This is incomprehensible because when she was the Chief Minister she even got Vaiko the villain of the Soap Opera arrested for having spoken in public in support of LTTE terrorists. Her performance is astounding but the theme is appalling. He calls Karunanidhi’s hunger strike is farce.

Then comes the final act of DMK chief Karunanidhi (Nidhi means sleeping). According reports coming from Indian print media, Karunannidhi has started a “hunger Strike” in support of LTTE terrorists another farce but not a fast unto death. What’s he going to achieve by this? Does he believe that our Sri Lankan government will take cognizance of this fact? Nonsense. Of course Sri Lankan Government would have seriously given it a thought had Karuna launched his hunger strike to force the LTTE to release the Tamil civilians holding in captivity to use as human shield. Unfortunately, as usual he has again picked the wrong side of the coin. India lost his son of soil Rajiv Gandhi at the hands of LTTE (Indians have not forgotten this) whilst Karuna-Nidhi is on hunger strike to save the killer Prabhakaran’s life. What’s Next? In fact a hunger strike by Jayalalitha may help her to slim a bit). The audience is in suspense now as to how the comedy drama will turn out to be.? Karuna has already started looking for lame excuses to give up the hunger strike saying that Sri Lankan Government has stopped shelling (which they never did to save the civilians) because of his “hunger strike. This is bull shit.

In this comedy opera, what will happen if Jayalalitha also joins Karunanidhi on a separate platform and launch a hunger strike until LTTE gets his Tamil Eelam for the Tamils in Sri Lanka and then perhaps attach Tamil Nadu also to Eelam. The Tamil Nadu voters will be in a dilemma as to decide which is the the best option out of the two- Prabhakran’s life or Tamil Eelam. Karunannidhi has to look for a more aggressive alternative to challenge Jayalalitha. However, we can see the end of this Tamil Nadu comedy when the elections results are announced. All these political gimmicks by Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha who change their policies like a chameleon changes its colors are nothing but to grab power at any cost. Just as much as Prabhakaran does not want to swallow his cyanide capsule, I am sure Karunanidhi will not want to die from the hunger strike he launched in support of LTTE. We like to see him carrying his hunger strike until the end and we wish Karuna the comedian eternal sleep (evelasting nidhi). But yet again, he can’t be that stupid to die in vain and must teasing his brains to find lame excuses to get out of the “hunger strike” he launched in support of LTTE.

The Oscar judges from main parties Indian Congress and the BJP may find it a Herculian task to pick the winner as both Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha are playing their comic roles to the best of their ability to win the award. The independent external judge i.e Sri Lanka is silently watching the progress with a sarcastic grin but sure to pick Vaiko as the best supporting villain.

By the time this letter goes to the press, Karunanidhi as expected would have given up the hunger strike without any reasons and wins the Oscar award.
