(April 30, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) We have at no time gone for a ceasefire. We will not do so now. There is no time for that now. In the five or six days remaining we have given the opportunity for the LTTE to lay down their arms and surrender to the Armed Forces and, even in the name of God, free the civilians held by them. If they have no regard for their own lives they should even consider the lives of others.
So said President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the 50th Anniversary of the commissioning of the Chandrikawewa at Embilipitiya, today (30).
All television channels of the world are now directed towards Sri Lanka. With satellite technology the whole world can now see how the LTTE uses tanks to fire at the Tamil people fleeing from them. Of what need special observers to know of this? Why do we need special representatives to study this? This is known the world over, the President said.
However it is a great surprise that some members of the international community do not see this. I must warn the world that this lack of vision could leads to a international tragedy, he added.
You would have seen how our troops rescue mothers, carrying their little children at Puthumathalan. How they carry the aged, yet even seeing this, some international forces point accusing fingers at us.Daya Master says that he was carried to safety like a child carrying one’s father. Some parents go on their knees to respect our troops for saving them from terror.
The world must see and know all this. That is why we call this a humanitarian operation. This is not how wars are fought in other countries. We have seen how Iraq was bombed. We have seen how Afghanistan is bombed. Those who come to preach to us seen how Afghanistan is bombed. It must be made clear that before accusing others, you must have the strength to know what you do yourself.-Sri Lanka Guardian

Well said Mr. President. There is no need for these international observers making visits to Sri Lanka spending valuable time and resources. They should send those resources to feed the hungry people freed from LTTE areas where they were used as a human shield. Some Tamil people who are now temporarily settled in camps valued how they are being treated, and their ability to have a square meal and also to send their children to school after so many years.
Even today Mr. B. Nadesan has boasted that they will never surrender. To which ordinance he is talking like this. It does not matter they surrender or not, that is their individual decision. But the civilians they are holding as hostages, should not go though the same criteria. Release the hostages, and face the Sri Lankan armed forces as brave men. LTTE has always been playing a coward hand. By planting bombs at central market places, and killing so many civilians they did not do any brave action. They have always been a set of cowards who instill fear in the innocent people, and ruined the country for everyone.
The so widely shown pictures of Prbhakaran and his family having a luxurious life style, everyone should note. He was building his successor with the ruins of Tamil and Sinhalese people he has killed during the last 30 years of warfare. At least it should come to an end now, and if the LTTE cadres cannot surrender and give up arms, they should be destroyed for the good of all Sri Lankans.
I also have a grouse on Ranil Wiskramsinghe after 19 straight defeats talking as if he is a savior of democracy. He is asking the government to table all the details of its warfare in the parliament. But Ranil never tabled the infamous Cease Fire Agreement in the parliament, though he has given almost two thirds of the land to LTTE in a platter. Who is he to ask the present government to do that? He also has challenged the President for a debate about the CFA with the President. He and his uncle JRJ are the people who created this situation for the Sri Lankan Government. Chandrika simply did not have the brains to see through to take control of terrorism.
