(April 02, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The National Transport Commission (NTC) has insisted that no discussions would take place until the Inter Province Bus Owners and employees abandon their strike action and return to work.
Stanley Fernando, President of the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners’Association, commenting on the issue said that the NTC should take full responsibility for the transport strike which commenced on Tuesday.
However, Prof. Amal Kumarage, Chairman of the NTC disagreed.
“It’s only a minority in the transport sector that is attempting to destroy the regulations that govern the bus service,” he said.
“Certain standards have to be maintained to develop the bus service,” Prof. Kumarage pointed out.
He also stressed that that within 24 hours of striking bus crews return to work and the services return to normal, the NTC would call for a meeting to discuss current issues.-Sri Lanka Guardian
