State-owned media journalist causes ripples of humour over photograph with Tigers
(March 06, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Sinhala language Dinamina’s Wijayani Edirisinghe has made a habit of accusing journalists as pro-LTTE just because they had visited LTTE-held areas and even met LTTE leaders during the period the Ceasefire Agreement was in operation in their line of duties. Even she has done that; more than that there is an impression that she cherishes a close friendship with the Trincomalee leader of the LTTE.
Now Colombo is agog with a photograph published in a Sinhala medium website with Dinamina’s defense correspondent Wijayani Edirisinghe photographed with Eleelan, the Trincomalee LTTE boss with a picture of the Tiger Supremo Prabhakaran as a backdrop. How curious!
After all Ms Edirisinghe has been quite hard in her writing about fellow journalists and NGO activists visiting LTTE held areas. Her news stories do not carry sources. They just say according to state intelligence sources and all that journalistic jargon and clichés. Now there is that very proof that she cannot identify that the very sauce that is used for the goose, is good enough for the gander too.
Or was she seeing the Trincomalee Tiger in his capacity as a non-LTTE species if ever there is one like it? Tut, tut Wijayani!
