Jayalalithaa on hunger strike for Lankan Tamil cause

(March 09, Chennai, Sri Lanak Guardian) As the election fever spreads across the country, politicians are doing all they can to ensure they do not lose their bastion. AIADMK Chief Jayalalithaa will go on a hunger strike in Chennai on Monday for the Lankan Tamil cause. She will fast from 9 am to 5 pm.

Ironically, Jayalalitaa had imprisoned PMK chief Vaiko for 18 months in 2002 for his speeches supporting the LTTE cause.

The Opposition leader says the ruling DMK government and the Centre have done precious little to bring about a ceasefire and help the Tamils there.

The AIADMK is holding hunger strikes across Tamil Nadu and will also collect money to be sent to the Tamils for humanitarian aid. -Sri Lanka Guardian
