(March 24, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) While the Govt. is holding elections every three months wasting people’s funds and Govt. time while talking of a war and giving false promises in order to divert the attention of the people from the burning problems in the country , the country itself is falling into pieces economically like a weak Govt.’s skeleton , said UNP M.P. Johnston Fernando at a media briefing yesterday (23 Mar), at the UNP media unit.
At every election it promises jobs and solutions to problems , but after elections it has forgotten them , and starts talking of its next election which it holds every three months. This is the first time in SL , people are harassed by elections held in a fragmented manner Earlier , elections were held for all the provinces once and for all. At the last elections .the Govt. issued job applications and made false promises, and won . Now, after winning ,it sends circulars to the effect that the county’s economic plight is so acute that no jobs can be given. No salary increases and bonuses can be granted . The Govt. which has from the day it came to power used profuse lying as its only strategy will perish if it loses this methodology in its campaigns and governance. Central Bank Governor too survives on this methodology. The Governor who stated that the global economic recession will not affect SL , is now in desperate straits looking for measures not to solve the economic problems , but rather to conceal them and his lies ,he added.
The UNP has been the only party which had always been consistent in its policies whether in or out of power , and it is only whenever the UNP has been in power that the country had an economic boom . Even when the UNP was the ruling party and was facing two wars , the JVP in the South and the LTTE in the North , it did not allow the economy to crash this deep as what has happened now. He urged all to think wisely and cast their votes for the UNP at the forthcoming elections.-Sri Lanka Guardian
