(March 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A fundamental rights petition was filed before the Supreme Court yesterday seeking a court order to recount the preferential votes obtained by the UPFA in the Puttalam District at the North Western Provincial Council election.
The petition was filed by four UPFA candidates who contested the provincial council election from the Puttalam district.
The Elections Commissioner, the Returning Officer of the Puttalam district and 19 other parties were cited as respondents.
The petition stated that the fundamental rights of the petitioners have been violated as corruption and malpractice had taken place following the counting of UPFA preferential votes.
