Dear Vahini Jeevakaran of Toronto

(March 21, Toronto, Sri Lanka Guardian) I guess you are a Tamil young lady; obviously. May be you are an undergraduate in one of the universities in Toronto or in the neighbourhood municipalities or a young lady in early employment but may not have a family of your own yet. Even otherwise, what you chose to express to a National Post feature on the Monday 16 march in support of the LTTE in Toronto points you out as exceptionally emotional, immature and has dared to state something without checking the facts.

You said:

“So many women civilians have been raped and killed. So many have been brutally burned, beaten and massacred. Are these not acts of terrorism by the Sri Lankan government? Why has the fact that government of Sri Lanka has been oppressing the Tamil community fallen on deaf ears?”

Young lady, before I proceed to share with you some truth, let me tell you an adage of ages. A woman, who lies to have her way, destroys the integrity of a community. In the Dravidian culture, a woman’s quality is expressed in the values that she holds high ethically, morally and spiritually and that is why she is treated as the one who lights the sacred lamp in the house; the kula vilakku. Please do not abuse this great tradition that has very deep meanings.

A woman is God’s most cherished creation to propagate the human species. You will realize how precious Mother Mary is to the Christians and Goddesses Saraswathy, Lakshmi and Durga are to the Hindus. You, young lady has to pursue this ideal of your privileged feminine birth. I take it, from your name, that you are a woman!

Let me also remind you that human civilizations sprung along river banks and most rivers were given feminine names like Ganga, Kaveri, Jamuna, Saraswathi and Volga for obvious reasons.

How much are you aware of what really is happening in Sri Lanka? Or are you dependent on what the Toronto Tamil media specializes in, without any conscience or guts only to serve Tiger arrogance and conceit? Some of you, it is common knowledge, are led by people like David Poopalapillai and scoundrels like Catholic Church employed Thiruchelvam, Tam Sivathasan alias dumb Thambiah of Pungudutivu, CMR officials, CTR, Mullakam tabloid, WTM terror-propagators, Fathers Chandrakanthan and Francis Xavier and a few other hangers on like Jesuthasan. Some others who have indulged in false propaganda have now eclipsed into the lunatic umbra regions.

When the LTTE saw girls were a great potential as a source for their evil aims especially as suicide bombers, they were told that in their governance, they will be Free Birds – Suthantira Paraivahal – and can enjoy unlimited freedom without having to be concerned about values that make families stable, honourable and decent.

At the beginning the young girls were lured by LTTE head hunters as first aid workers working in the community. Later, when the demand for suicide bombers grew, they snatched them indiscriminately from families or were abducted on the way to, or back from schools, brutally attacked in which rape was a major factor and inducted as suicide bombers by the LTTE. Each woman suicide bomber was placed in the hands of two male supposed to be handlers and under their total control. How could any organization degrade women in the manner LTTE treated women especially young women of your age?

This Vahini Jeevaharan is common knowledge and the whole word is aware of it. Even at the very moment you were demonstrating in Toronto last Monday, innocent civilian young ladies from the government declared no fire zone were being forced mercilessly to take up arms including a 16-year old daughter of a UN worker. In fact her entire family was forced to take up arms. This was officially reported by the UN.

Have you been listening to news stories being broadcast to the entire people of Sri Lanka about the need to save the Tamils from the LTTE and liberate them from the atrocities committed on them? The concerns that are being shown there must drive you to shame because you are demonstrating in support of the very forces that are engaged in genocidal acts against the Tamils. And of course Tigers have been the primary destroyers of Tamil women and all that are precious to womanhood.

Do you know innocent Tamil civilians who are trying to escape from the Tiger hold are being shot at their back in Wanni? Among them were a number of children including a 3-month old infant? Are you also aware that some young ladies who went to Wanni from Canada soon after the tsunami disaster have been forced against their wish to stay back there and their fate is unknown?



If the armed forces are beating, burning and killing as you so unabashedly stated, why are the poor civilians in their thousands risking their lives and rushing to the areas under the armed Forces? Why are you Vahini Jeevakaran, who enjoys grants and support from the Canadian government, indulging in such evil propaganda? How many young girls have been denied of even high school education by the LTTE? Can you face such an outrage yourself? Will your parents allow you to go to Wanni and serve Prabhakaran and his terror gang?

Are you aware that an entire highly prosperous agricultural region has been totally devastated? How much do you know of Wanni, its history and the hardworking nature of the people of this region? Until the Tiger scourge along with thousands force-herded from Jaffna into Wanni in 1995 and began its cancerous destruction, Wanni was considered the granary of Sri Lanka. Even areas surrounding the great irrigation tanks were neglected and rendered into Tiger arsenals and training camps.

Vahini Jeevakaran, I want to tell you very clearly that you as a woman have in making this charge committed an abominable outrage against your own people from the comforts of your life in Canada. Do you need the thrill and excitement of being involved in something by caring two hoots about honour and integrity? Can you look around and see the kind of people with whom you are obviously socializing, interacting and keeping company?



In other words you are being a party to agents and people who are determined to regroup the LTTE in Canada once they come to grief in Sri Lanka. Do you want the damage caused by the Tigers to the thousands killed, lands devastated, communities uprooted and shady persons enriched themselves of millions of dollars repeated by giving a new life to this terror monster?

If you can find some time take a drive around Markham municipality to inform yourself of how the Tamil millionaires, the first generation refugees, have exploited Tiger terrorism to advantage. Many of them are fund collectors for the LTTE. Do you also know that the Tamils in Canada, obviously pro-LTTE Tamils, are the first refugees in the world to have such a comfortable life in another country? My fear is that this LTTE underworld network can cause major problems for Canada in the future.

As I told you, when a woman lies, a community suffers.
