(February 22, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) A man who tried to smuggle into Sri Lanka narcotics from Chennai was arrested last night.Police said Sadiq Pasha hailing from Ilayngudi in Sivaganga district arrived at the Chennai international airport to board a Air Lanka flight bound to Colombo at around 12.30 am.
Officials checked his belongings and found 5 kg of pan parag and other tobacco products. When the Customs officials questioned him further, Sadiq replied that he was carrying the items for sale in Sri Lanka. Growing suspicious they opened the sachets and found ketamine.
Apart from seizing the contraband, they arrested Sadiq Pasha. They conducted a search and it is said that the worth of the seized items was valued at Rs 20 lakh in the international market.
Woman waylaid
An elderly woman was waylaid at Muktha Pudupet in the city by two men who were later taken into police custody.
Police said Muniamma (60) was returning from a shop when two motorcycle-borne men snatched her hand bag and sped away. It is said the woman was carrying Rs 500 in cash and a mobile phone.
Based on a complaint, Muktha Pudupet police arrested Udayakumar and Ramesh of Arakkampakkam area and recovered the cell phone and the cash.
