8 Lankan Air Force men return

(Februaery 04, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Eight Sri Lankan Air Force personnel who came to Tambaram Air Force station two days back for training have been sent back to their country following a demand made by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to the Centre.

The personnel were sent back last night after instructions in this regard were issued by the Centre, an official release has said.

Officials of the air force station here had sought police protection for these personnel. Police conveyed this information to the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister immediately asked the officials to get in touch with the Centre, asking them to send the airmen back to their country. Accordingly the Centre issued instructions to send them back.

Last year, a similar incident occurred when some Sri Lankan army men who arrived at Coimbatore for training with CRPF were sent back to their country, following demands from political parties that Army personnel from the island nation should not be trained in India, as it would be used against Tamils there.
