Sri Sri Ravishankar to visit Sri Lanka

(January 27, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Art of Living leader Sri Sri Ravishankar said he plans to visit Sri Lanka and meet President Mahinda Rajapakse and LTTE leader V Prabhakaran separately to try and bring about a ceasefire between the two sides.

Alleging 'innocent Tamils' were being killed there, he told reporters here that only a negotiated settlement could bring peace to the war-torn country.

Very soon, I plan to meet Rajapakse and Prabhakaran separately to hold talks with them to bring about a ceasefire, he said. Accusing political parties in Tamil Nadu of enacting a drama on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue, he said the state government should prevail upon the Centre to intervene and protect Sri Lankan Tamils.

Earlier, Ravishankar, who arrived here by a special helicopter from Bangalore, visited the Mandapam Sri Lankan refugee camp and spoke to the inmates.

He also distributed clothes to the refugees. Later in the evening, participating in a function at a school here, Ravishankar asked the participants to observe a five-minute silence to express solidarity with Sri Lankan Tamils.
