Speaker to rule one no-confidence motion on Wednesday

(January 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Speaker W.J.M.Lokubandara will make a statement to Parliament tomorrow on the fate of the UNP sponsored no-confidence motion.The motion was to have been debated on January 9 but as UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera who handed in the motion failed to move it that day, the Leader of the House Nimal Siripala De Silva said it had lapsed.

However today Chief Opposition Whip Joseph Michael Perera told Parliament that the motion cannot lapse because it was not moved and asked for the Speaker to rule on the matter.

The Speaker said he would make a statement to the House tomorrow. - Sri Lanka Guardian
